However, it would be naive not to acknowledge the fact that significant risks do exist in this area. Much of the health information produced online is of poor quality, unverified and potentially unreliable. Certain online sources of information also promote poor health outcomes contrary to government policy and good medical practice (e.g. pro-anorexia sites — see Box 22 below). This has led to calls by some (including the Picker report ) for accreditation of information providers.
